You're alive, but are you living?

I didn't know where to go or what I wanted to do with my life. All I knew with absolute certainty was that I didn't want to feel this way anymore.

You're alive, but are you living?

My life was stuck.

And I didn't know how to unstuck myself because I was going in circles.

It was a cycle of trying to get unstuck, moving around, and ending up in the same place again and again.

I was alive, but I wasn't truly living. Everything was just happening around me, and I just happened to be in it. A passive observer in my own life story.

The worst part? I didn't know where to go or what I wanted to do with my life. All I knew with absolute certainty was that I didn't want to feel this way anymore.

Have you ever felt this way?

This state of being – existing without truly living – is more common than you might think. Many of us find ourselves trapped in this limbo, yearning for something more but unsure how to achieve it.

The first step is awareness. Recognizing that you're stuck is crucial. It's like finally admitting you're lost – only then can you start looking for a way out. You know you are at rock bottom; what else can you do but lift yourself up?

The next hurdle is to embrace discomfort. Change is uncomfortable, but it's necessary for growth. The familiar, even if it's unfulfilling, can be oddly comforting. Breaking free requires courage.

The odd thing about gaining courage is that it works in many ways. For some people, it requires support, motivation, and positive thoughts. But it didn't work for me. I was still stuck. What was wrong with me?

So, I asked myself:

What do I hate about my life, and why do I hate them?

This question made me realize how much I hated being in the backseat of my own life. I shouldn't be just an observer, I should drive this vehicle. It's my life, after all.

From then on, it was easier to move forward whenever life felt stagnant and monotonous. I just ask the same question.

How to unstuck yourself

  1. Self-reflection: Take time to understand yourself. What brings you joy? What are your values? What does success look like to you? What do you hate about your life right now?
  2. Set small, achievable goals: Start with tiny steps. Each small victory builds momentum and confidence.
  3. Embrace failure: Understand that setbacks are part of the journey. They're not endpoints but learning opportunities.
  4. Seek support: Connect with others who inspire you or understand your struggles. Sometimes, a fresh perspective can illuminate paths you haven't seen before.
  5. Take action: Even if you're unsure, do something. Action breeds clarity. You'll learn more about what you want (and don't want) by doing rather than thinking. Or at least–write. Because writing clarifies thinking, and at the very least, you'll clear your mind.

Uncertainty is our destiny

Remember, feeling stuck is not a permanent state. It's a signal that you're ready for change, growth, and new experiences. The path forward may not be clear, but that's okay. Life isn't about having all the answers; it's about being willing to search for them.

As you embark on this journey of self-discovery and growth, be kind to yourself. Celebrate small victories, learn from setbacks, and keep moving forward. If you can break the cycle, the loop will not repeat, and a life of purpose and fulfilment is within reach.

You're not just alive—you're ready to start living. That realization is the first step towards the life you've always wanted.
