The good old days are now
We've all been there—that feeling of being stuck, of life going nowhere.
The emptiness creeps in when we look around and see no one to come home to, no money in the bank, no interesting hobbies, no matches on dating apps, and no friends to hang out with.
In these moments, we find ourselves wandering, lost in a spiral of questions about our purpose and direction.
But what if I told you that this moment, the one you're living right now, could be the "good old days" you'll look back on fondly in the future?
The present is only a brief moment in time
Mindfulness is a powerful tool for reconnecting with the present moment. It is about paying attention to what's happening right now without judgment.
It's about noticing the birds chirping, the aroma of your morning coffee, or the feeling of your feet on the ground as you take that aimless walk.
Next time you're out walking, instead of getting lost in your thoughts, focus on your surroundings. Notice the colours of the leaves, the smell of the air, the texture of the sidewalk, and the rhythm of your breath.
This simple act of paying attention can ground you in the present and open your eyes to the beauty that exists in everyday moments.
You used to wish that you'd be here
When life feels like it's going nowhere, gratitude can be a game-changer. It's easy to focus on what we missed in life, but what if we shift our attention to what we have?
They don't have to be big things. Maybe it's the taste of your favourite snack, a kind smile from a stranger, or a moment of peace on a busy day. For me, personally, it's the first sip of coffee in the morning.
Take a moment to reflect on how far you've come and how different your life is compared to a few years ago. Remember how you wished you would be here one day?
Life happens today
What if today, right now, is part of the "good old days" you'll reminisce about in the future? It's easy to romanticize the past and idealize the future, forgetting that the present is where life actually happens.
Think about it.
Twenty years from now, you might look back on this period of your life fondly. You might remember the freedom you had, the lessons you learned, or the simple pleasures you enjoyed. One day, you'll miss it.
So why not start appreciating these moments now?
Now is the good old days
So, the next time you find yourself wandering, questioning your path, remember this: Today is the good old days. The present happens now.
Make it count. Pay attention to the world around you. Find gratitude in small things. Create experiences that bring you joy. And most importantly, be kind to yourself.
Your life isn't going anywhere.
It's going exactly where you are right now.
And that's a beautiful place to be.
I hope you find this insightful. Remember:
It's not going to be easy,
But it's not impossible.
Your friend,
Brian.
