Life is a non-fiction
I grew up watching TV shows about adulthood.
Shows like How I Met Your Mother, F.R.I.E.N.D.S, and Glee, taught me what being an adult should look like. Each episode followed a neat storytelling arc: problem appears, characters struggle, resolution emerges, and everyone learns a valuable lesson while sipping coffee in their favorite café.
I thought that's how my life would be.
But it wasn't.
I waited for those daily friend hangouts at the local café, but my friends and I lived in different cities. I anticipated exciting plot twists, but instead it is replaced by mundane routines and ordinary days. I expected to be the protagonist who achieved their dreams, but years passed, and I remained in the same place.
No matter how hard I tried to make myself the protagonist of a sitcom, it will never work. Because life is a non-fiction.
Life isn't meant to be lived like you're the main character of a drama series. In life, you're supposed to be the screenwriter.
Want to hang out with friends? Make that call.
Want an interesting life? Create those moments.
Stuck in a loop? Break it.
Because here's the thing:
Your life won't follow a perfect narrative arc. It won't resolve itself in 22 minutes. And there won't always be a lesson at the end.
So:
Stop waiting for life to become interesting.
Stop expecting perfect timing.
Stop hoping for the right miracle to happen.
Instead:
Start writing your own story.
Start creating your own adventures.
Start living on your terms.
Life is a non-fiction. But that doesn't make it any less beautiful. So don't waste your time waiting, expecting, and hoping. Spend your time to experience it to the fullest.
I hope you find this insightful. Remember:
It's not going to be easy,
But it's not impossible.
Your friend,
Brian.
